Description
The Grand Theatre (Polish: Teatr Wielki) is a theatre complex and opera company located on Theatre Square in Warsaw. It is one of the largest theatres in Europe. It was designed by the Italian architect Antonio Corazzi and built in 1825-1833. In September 1939, during the World War II, the Grand Theatre was bombed and almost completely destroyed by Germans, with only the classical facade surviving. Between 1945 and 1965 the theatre building was being restored and expanded. It was opened to the public on November 19, 1965.
